Question:
Vertical Penetration boundary extents question for stair shafts...are the main floor slab landings added to the Floor Common Area sq. ft. since they are not a penetration in the floor (i.e. only stairs and intermediate landings are counted in the Vert Penetrations sq ft)? Or is the floor slab area included in Vert Penetration sq ft if it's part of the egress path?
Answer:
Stairs and their enclosing walls are excluded as VPs on all levels, unless a private stairwell, under BOMA 1996 Standard.
